[quote
user="rowuk"]For all practical purposes, ESD has“proper“ horns and
apparently decent drivers. Thus, we have a chance with this collection of bits
to have some decent sonic results. Now we just need a process, perhaps the most
difficult par...

Yes, we all have a place we like to sit for live music, where the resonances and interactions with the space and walls of the hall to give us an effect we find most pleasing.
We readily accept this for live music, w...
I decided recently to add the Shelter 901 to my collection of 'Groove Riderz' and wondered what was the justification of the price hike for the 90X. Read the same review as yourself and thought that I learn't nothing other than ...
Making a vacuum hold down is quite simple, but would it be easier to use a device like the old Audio Technica AT-666? I guess the material used in the latter is not the ultimate. You don't need a great amount of vacuum ...

OK, thanks. I would leave for others to decide what the “higher resolution image” might mean. It might be some kind of untranslatable Japanese folklore. The more vibrant color palette is definably a valid accomplishment, no one knows through if it is...

I had one for about a week and was not happy. Switched to a Kenwood KT1100.
Here an honest review that matches my experience. Bottom line is that on stuff this old, the individual buyer will determine the price, not the market.

Guys,
You really misunderstood this CD. This is just a compilation of GOOD MUSIC well performed and interpreted and it has nothing to do with audio. For instance now of my compilations CDs I ever played on my playback. Those CDs are good enough for ...
Good to hear about your week with Mussorgsky Romy. I came upon a mono Leibowitz / RPO RCA the other day. It has its moments IMHO. There seems also to be a new HMV Richter Sofia recital cd from HMV:

This miserable Japanese freaks did it again!
For years the Scherchen Mozart Requiem 1953 performance was available only on the Westminster LP and at few privet low quality CD transfers, The Universal/DG has the wonderful transfer (289 471 201-2) of&...

As usually I tend to see a generalization and patters. The very same is the case of that Brazilian installation with those Japanese hors. However, I would like to take it even further then just the very questionable design decisions in that upperbass...

Joe,
A few comments I need to make.
First, about the WE. I think it is a bit cheap, to bring to the table with me the arguments of the level that the “editor of the biggest and most influential magazine in the world, Stereo Sound, who can get...

We had this exchange with Christopher Witmer, who lives in Japan, via the AA about the new driver form some small Japanese manufacturer. The dirt who runs that form has deleted the whole development. Hm, people wonder why for years I have a vocal and...

Mr. Witmer seems like a very thoughtful and well-spoken person who is taken with the aesthetics/approach of various Japanese sound Senseis, most of whom are in turn rooted in "historical" American and/or English audio sensibilities. I'm afraid ...

There is a picture of a bbq thingy -- at first sight I was confused thinking it was downward & upward facing horns...:)
The cone soaking is a whole another subject all together. It is possible to make amassing changes with drivers, from taking the sound out off roof to complete killing sound. I know that effect Glycerin has to paper cone. There are hundreds of other c...
I finally received the GOTO SG38WNS 15" woofer and GOTO SG188S tweeter this week. My next step is to build a dual driver bass cabinet to cover 70Hz down.
Ming, I know nothing about the Goto woofer. Would you care to sha...

Well, I just placed an order on the 505TT and S150 horn last week... I came across this site after placing my order and now I'm worried about the mismatch of driver/horn. It seems like I'll have to either change the horn or the back chamber. Romy, is...

A typical switching supply does not evenly load the input (sinewave) power source and can create some dirt on the AC line (Paul's "backwash" statement??). Depending on many variables, the amount of contamination the switching supply could contribute...

I really do not know what is going on and how to explain the phenomena; I just dump it to you “as is”. Because of multiple reasons I decided to drain the Milq’s power supply when the amp shits down. I have a...

That just about sums it up, all right. You'd think it would be obvious that cartridges are not a viable subject for DIY/boutique building and/or modding; but, apparently, they are yet approached in this way by a small "underground" army of hopefuls,...

Well, I would say this CES was very low on decent sound. Sometimes I had to fight with the urge to leave a room or two immediately after hearing a few bars of music being played.Still the hope is not lost. At a fringe show at the Flamingo hotel (THE ...

Besides the single driver Aporia (which I haven't heard) I don't think Silbatone has made any speakers. So they don't 'employ' GIP drivers. I think GIP is a separate Japanese company who have just been invited to participate at these German show...

Paul,
Ok, I would agree with this. The power handling is the factor that I forgot to mention. The Japanese home drivers are rated for a few watts vs. the pro driver are rated for hundreds watts. BTW, some of older pro drivers (like my Vitavox) wer...

It is 4” exit and reportedly goes down to 27Hz. I do not know what a lot about this diver but it might be a good driver for 40Hz horn. 4” into 40hz? God, it has to be at least 16 feet long horn! I would take my head off to somebody who goes for it. A...

In our experiments, the more power we threw at the A7s, the better they worked. I heard some of the original "theater" version Altecs playing with their original "dedicated" Altec amps, and these sounded considerably better; but I never got ahol...

Again, it may be parallax (or, it may be late...), but the following do not appear to me to be "smooth progressions", whether simple or exponential:1) Section 2, vertically
